Re: Have we all seen this yet?

Yeah Annie T signing is big news

I guess Crossfit doesn't actually have any exclusivity contracts with any crossfit athletes, do they have any contracts at all ?

This could change things for crossfit, they might have to start throwing some money about at the top names otherwise athletes are going to use crossfit to get the exposure then join this league.

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

I gotta say, I scoffed at this the first time I saw it. But they have landed a few name-brand competative excercisers here.

To make a go of this kind of thing, you need it to be TV-friendly. And with the people they have, plus a built-in audience of people who are fiercely loyal to their "sport", and have the kind of disposable income that lets them spend 7 or 8 times the money on a gym membership as the average person. I could see some CF-specific advertisers looking to get on to this.....

As long as they dont try to do this in empty areans, it would look much better on TV at boxes or gyms where 100 people look like 1000, they can keep costs down. It may be crazy enough to work!

If it flies, it wont be high off the ground, but it could fly....

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

It does fill a void because right now there is only the Crossfit games and the odd special (USA v Europe) so there isn't really that much to watch if your a crossfitter who also likes to watch competitions

Maybe if this does do quite well, we may see more frequent crossfit events

This is what Castro said following 14.5. More Crossfit competitions following the games.

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

Here's a crazy thought, Rich has said he's likely to retire from individual competition after this year but has hinted he'll still compete in the team comp. Considering that the NFPL offers a team comp and a set income, I wonder if Rich would choose to go with the NPFL in 2015. From what Budding has thrown out there, teams can pay athletes whatever they want so maybe a team would pay him a decent salary just for the notoriety of the league.

I don't think it is that crazy anymore with Annie T. and Valenzuela in the NPFL.

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

This article does a breakdown of the NPFL pretty well.

While Ammie, Lindsey and Amanda Goodman have all confirmed they're still competing to get to the Games this year, eventually most athletes will have to choose one or the other right? Their bodies will need some kind of off season i would think. I guess we don't know yet how taxing the NPFL will be but competing in the Games season and then the NPFL seems like it would really tear them down. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Have we all seen this yet?

With the frequent substitutions allowed in the NPFL, I think it is important to have some specialists on your team.

If I was an NPFL team owner, I would sign Dmitri Klokov in a heartbeat. And then get some gymnastics-type person that can do all the handstand walking and pull ups and HSPU.
