Re: what is your occupation?

Tree Surgeon - I guess Tree worker in the US is the correct term (or was when I worked there!)

Basic explanation is the guy with the chainsaw pruning bits off of trees - usually suspended like 50ft in the air by a piece of rope and balance. It was fun, but all sensible people quit while they're ahead - so once I got my degree in Arboriculture (the cultivation and management of trees within the landscape. This includes the study of how trees grow and respond to cultural practices and the environment, as well as application of cultural techniques such as selection, planting, care, surgery and removal) I kind of decided to start using my brain to help people make decisions about trees that were a bit more effective.

I know work in local government in Colchester, England. Quite a dull existence but I feel like I'm making a difference on some level.

But yeah basically I was the guy that hauled himself up the rope clipped on and walked to the end of the branch.

Any openings for a Journalism 101 Prof. at the local community college?

Apply to work for the CFHQ Journal and the soon-to-be CF RRG?

Unfortunately substitute teaching pays nothing. I was going to get certified as a teacher and do that, but you have to have two years of experience in the field and I do not.

And don't you have to have more than a bachelor's to be a Journalism professor?

What's CF RRG?

While you need two years experience to get your alternative certification, you can just go to Ed School and earn your certificate in about a year.

Yes, you need to have a minimum of a Master's degree in Journalism (or related field) to teach it in college. You'll find that even with a Master's, jobs will be tough to get as there are a ton of PhD's out there right now looking for work.

I went to public school and had my father for at least one class every year. It was a small school, but that situation is not uncommon at all. If there is only one teacher who teaches a specific class, you have to put the student in with his/her parent.
