belt for Olympic lifts
Is there a specific thing to look for in a belt to use for Olympic lifts? Is there really a need for a different belt than what a powerlifter would use?

Re: belt for Olympic lifts
I don't wear one for the snatch - too awkward to get into my pulling position. That's the big thing, it can't impede your positions. You also don't want the bar getting caught on it on the way up. I use a relatively low profile nylon one for cleans.

Okay. I guess most of the ones that are low profile have the velcro strap. I was really wanting it for cleans more than anything else.

I wear a Best Belt for power lifting but bought a Harbinger 4" nylon belt for $17 for clean and jerks and squats. It works very well.

Re: belt for Olympic lifts
I use a Valeo VLP nylon/velcro belt for olympic lifting (cleans/c+j) and a Inzer Forever 10mm leather belt for squats/heavy deadlifts.
Keep in mind if you are planning on lifting in competitions, you can't use a belt any wider than 4" (I'm pretty sure). |

Re: belt for Olympic lifts
I had a 4" leather belt from Best Belts, which was great for squats and deadlifts, but like others have said, it cut into my ribs and I couldn't get down low enough when trying oly lifts, so I picked up a Schiek 2004 belt. It scoops down around the rib cage, allowing me to bend all the way down for cleans and snatches, but still has great abdominal and lumbar support. It is great.

Re: belt for Olympic lifts
For heavy power lifts I have a leather belt. I don't recall what company. All u remember is that it is hand made by a guy in Texas. Great belt no doubt. There should be posts about his belts a year or three back.
I was trying to get a cheap nylon belt but the local sports store didnt have my size. So I tossed a little extra to support 2POOD by getting one of their belts. I am happy with the decision as they are a good company and they sent a shipping label 8 hours after I purchased. |
