Pain in the Neck!
A little background...
Say 4 yrs ago the car I was riding in rear ended some girls & my head hit the windshield, hard enough to spider it. Fast forward a few years & I couldnt do any kind of weights without aggrivating it, so I switched it up to yoga & cardio. But I miss the weights! Ive been doing cf for a while & loving it, but yesterday with the pull up heavy workout I tweaked my neck. This also happened on a major pullup workout about a month ago, but was so bad then that I couldnt move. Today it gave me a major headache. I wasnt overdoing it, I have warmed up to it very gradually. I have done physio & the works. So what can I sub for pullups, as im not doing high reps again... Which SUCKS as I am getting to the point of muscle ups now! Or recommendations for strengthening without straining? S. |

You have to be patient and instead of doing the full number of pull-ups you have to reduce it, then next time you do a pull-up heavy workout add a few. NO there is no sub for a pull-up, not to get the benefits you get from a pull-up. You say you have done physio, but I would be interested to know what they did with you.

I am patient, i have slowly worked up to the full number. My muscles can take it, its my neck that gets tweaked every now & again. But once it does I back right off, sometimes for weeks, which is frustrating.
I am going to begin a regular trigger point session & continue with the yoga for now S> |

I have back problems related to my c5, c6 and c7 so I know what you are going through. My solution to my problem is chiropractor and therapeutic massages, and no heavy weights and only push ups ( the overhead push up really work well for me).
