I bought some stall mats at Tractor Supply (yes, really) and suddenly realized I'm not sure how they go; do the grooves, which really hurt my hands, go up or is the diamond pattern bottom Or, does it matter?

I put the diamond pattern up. It is annoying at times, but workable. In the future I will be getting a smooth surfaced on. At the time I bought mine, I didn't see any, but now I have seen them (Fleet Farm).

Tony, I think the grooves go down. I never thought of the ag supply type stores for rubber mats, good thinking!

Bought mine at a feed store. They are smooth on both sides.
