Entire arm goes numb with OHS

Today's WOD was a killer, and actually the first workout that I haven't completed. Overhead squats have been a real challenge for me, and often I practice them at the gym after my workouts, using a 45 pound bar. I first tried the px'd 95 lbs, but had to scale it down to 65. I was doing good until I finished my second set, when my right hand and forearm started tingling and feeling numb. I kept pushing it until halfway through my fourth round, when I realized it was getting worse (working up through my entire arm) and that I should probably stop. As I write this four hours later, my hand is still a bit numb. I feel like maybe I strained the shoulder, and the muscle inflamed, partially pinching off the artery.

Has anyone ever experienced this with OHS's, or any other exercise? Nothing like this has ever happened to me... please help.

Sounds more like a pinched nerve than a pinched artery. Pinched artery and you'd be all blue and purple

Other than that, I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

Re: Entire arm goes numb with OHS

Agree that nerve would most likely be the cause.

You need to be careful with any kind of nerve entrapment/impingement as it can quickly lead to muscle inhibition and therefore rapid wastage.

Given it was the first time I would experiment again and see if it comes back, and if so I would make the effort to get your neck/shoulder looked at to establish the cause.

Hope that helps.
