If you own a box and consider it a business, then do yourself a favor and read this article. It's written by the founder of 37 Signals and what he points out is something most CrossFit Affiliates miss in running their business... More customers is not necessarily a good indicator of better. When dealing with a brick and mortar business, more customers means more equipment, more parking, more space, more instructors... And it means dealing with the logistal problems that are associated with all of that.

In my business, Im not looking for more... In fact, we've capped our membership. We are looking for more of the RIGHT customers... Who are willing to pay for a service that is LIFE changing.

That is a great article. As always, thanks for sharing. And being right. One of the biggest mistakes I made was not charging enough early.

Thanks for posting. Pricing was such a huge deal for us. On one hand, we were new and wanted to bring in as many people as we could to start to cover our overhead. On the other hand we didnt want to cheapen our product by having too low of prices. So, we decided to throw out an introductory offer to try and gain some paying clients. What a mistake that was. Almost every person who came in on that offer decided to not re-up on their dues when the two month promo pricing was up. Did we need those clients, yes and no. We should have been more patient and now we know. Our pricing still isnt super high, and we do work with people if they want to do it, but dont have the funds. Those people have been pretty solid members.

I gotta back up Andy here (not that he needs it). One of he best things we did for our business was raise our prices to a point that we felt our service deserved.

I used to be in the retail business a few years ago, and one lesson that stuck with me is this: If your customers think you're too expensive, then you need to raise your prices.
