One-armed farmers walk

Tried something different today after my WOD. Walked with one 45# plate for a mile. It was one of those regular plates, with the lip on one side. My rule was I could never put it down until the 1/2 mile point, but I could switch hands as needed. My forearms are RIPE!!! I see people in here asking about what to do for grip, try this. It was nice, if any of you do indeed try it, let me know what you think.

Re: One-armed farmers walk

It's called the suitcase walk. It fits into the definition of functional exercise fairly well!

Re: One-armed farmers walk

So you carried it with essentially a pinch grip? Or through the hole in the center?

Re: One-armed farmers walk

sounds fun! were you able to take breaks as needed after .5 miles or did you make more rules for yourself?

Re: One-armed farmers walk

I just dropped the plate at 1/2 mile and shook it out as long as needed, probably about 3-5 minutes, then picked it up and drove on again. I was forced to switch hands a little more often, goes without saying.

Re: One-armed farmers walk

If you keep that up for a few more miles, a few layers of the skin on your hands will slough off about 2 days later. Don't ask.

Re: One-armed farmers walk

LOL, nice. Maybe that was just the weak skin making way for the stronger tougher skin...

Re: One-armed farmers walk

Haha, sounds fun man. I'll try it in my warmup today. Not half a mile though.
