"women weaken legs"? (no longer entirely WFS (depending on your work and family))

I was watching the original 'rocky' movie the other night and Rocky's trainer, mickey, tells him to stay away from adrian cuz "women weaken legs". I am not directing this towards men or women the opposite philosophy might be the same for women. The question is geared towards an athlete's sex life leading up to the olympics or a title fight.

is this still a valid concept used by pro athletes training for a big event? Is it more about the week or weeks leading up to the event or just a few nights?

Conventional wisdom is that it's not the relations themselves that are bad for training, it's the DISTRACTION of CHASING women that is bad for training. Makes a young male athlete lose focus.

In fact at least one person, my buddy, feels that the time he spends with his girl is some quality "active recovery" for his core and various muscles

For Strength athletes

It looks like Micky was wrong. But like anything, do what works for you.

THe links both mention sex but in a clinical manner, depends on your family and work place

Re: "women weaken legs"?

great articles Jamie. for the second one i think i need to know the effect that prolactin has on the body to understand the results.

it's hard to believe that having sex the night before an event would have no effect. the physical body is exerting energy during sex. I guess it matters some degree if you are having light, 15 minute sex or a sweaty, two hour session, but i would think there has to be some kind of effect.

What if I decided to go for a 2 hour bike ride or a 5 mile run the night before an event would that have an effect on my performance the next day?

i bet a lot of athletes still stick with the 'no sex' thing. i would especially think boxers and endurance athletes over lets say baseball or basketball players.

i understand the eastern philosophy regarding ejaculation. the idea of 'life force' i am not 100% sold on, but there is definitely something that physically takes place after ejaculation. some kind of chemical is released that seems to take the 'wind out of your sails'. how long of an effect does this have? two hours? maybe?

i think there are a lot of activities like sex, house work, and daily tasks that we often overlook as factors in our training. I am fortunate to have a very healthy & active sex life. yet i never enter any of that info into my training log, but maybe i should?

Re: "women weaken legs"?

On "There is Something About Mary", Ben Stiller's character was instructed to rub one out prior to his date based on the idea that after ejaculation a man is able to think like a woman or something like that. It probably has to do with decreased testosterone levels, and with that it could be assumed that lower testosterone levels would have a negative effect on performance.

This thread is not going to head in the right direction.

Does gratification (induced by self or other) hinder progress?
