Rhabdo Update

Just a quick note. My sis in law (a hard headed MD) finally had her labs drawn and her CK was 58,000!! Her renal function tests were all within normal limits. Her colleagues deferred admitting her because they estimated her CK had actually come down some and was on a downward trend! The norm is about 100-150. She was given a prescription for sodium tabs and told to HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE.
She will be fine, though have a psychological dent over this.

Question: what should she do? Tell the affiliate? Go back and stay quiet? She really wants to get into it but does not want to risk being labelled as a tattle tale.
Thoughts?

I'd definitely let the affiliate know, obviously in the most nice manner without trying to offend. But I mean, if it causes them to scale back a little more and potentially could save someone's life, then it's more than worth it.

Re: Rhabdo Update

Absolutely tell the affiliate. This is not something to keep quiet about. It is a risk of high intensity training and a testement to how hard your sister in law pushes herself. Ditto on the hydration, she needs to flush her kidneys out. My friend Brian that met Rhabdo was way worse off and was off work for 3 months...this is not something to mess with.

Gradual on ramp to a distant horizon...that's how Coach describes what the beginner's outlook should be on their search for elite fitness. The affiliate will be able to adjust her training so this doesn't happen again.

I agree with Eugene. The affiliate should definitely know if it messed up training someone.

Re: Rhabdo Update

I agree with telling the affiliate.

A professional would want to know that this happened. Any good instructor/coach/trainer learns from all feedback.

While it is always nice to hear how great we are, the real learning for a professional comes from knowing what we could have done better. A good trainer will want to know this happened. It will help them to help all their clients better in the long run.

Yes, she should talk with them. It's easy to get over excited with new folks and push them too far. We all need to remember to be careful. I would want to know for sure if one of my clients had this happen. I'm sorry she had to go through this.
