Three 1/2 months of religious Crossfit, mixed with 2-3 runs a week (only 3 >10 miles), and I finished the Chicago Half Marathon in 1:38 today. That's 10 minutes faster than my time last year, only then I trained exclusively with running. This also goes without mentioning my <6 hours averaged for sleep and 80+ hours of work/ week over the last three months.
Two other things stand out here. First, I had enough in the tank at the end to outsprint the three other runners who tried to overtake me in the last 400m. Not so much last year. Second, I felt fresh and recovered within minutes of finishing; definitely not true of last year's race. In fact, I plan to get the WOD in later today. Figure that if I keep this up through the winter, I should be able to get into the sub-7 mile range for races next year. This stuff works. |

Andrew,
I noticed that you did indeed get the WOD in today and in a great time. STRONG WORK! Kudos! |

congratulations! I am hoping to do something similar at the end of October at the Nike half. You just inspired me that I am doing the right kind of training at a time when I was beginning to doubt my crossfit heavy training sessions.
