Knee Sleeves

Hello everyone,

Been doing CrossFit for about 3 months and I LOVE IT! So now I'm slowly starting to gear up with the essentials. I already have Lifting Shoes, Nanos, and Wrist Straps. However the hardest thing for me to look for are some really good Knee Sleeves because there are so many out there I don't know whats considered good or bad. My Stats: 6'1 225lbs, deadlift 450, B. Squats 455, Clean and Jerk 225, Overhead Snatch 205 of course I want to protect my knees from any injuries what sleeves do you guys consider to be good?

knee sleeves aren't really used for injury prevention purposes. they are used for keeping the joint warm.

I use (and most people I know use) Rehband sleeves. I use the older 7051, but the newer model which is more fitted is the 7751.

Tommy Kono sleeves are also popular, but I think the quality is not on par with the Rehband gear.

Have you had injuries to your knees from lifting? Are you lifting extreme weights to make you think that no human knee joint can handle your load?

Sleeves won't prevent injuries. If you want to buy all the goodies to win the fashion show, then the Rehbands are good.

I use the Tommy Kono's and absolutely love them. Instead of the compression fabric on the interior, the TK's have rubber that, I think, insulates the joint a lot better. Lots cheaper than the Rehbands(sp?) as well. Just my 2 cents.

I think the fact that most, if not all, high level weightlifters and powerlifters wear some form of knee sleeve or wrap should tell you that they are not just for show.

Bought the Rehbands from Rogue.

I started at my CrossFit gym almost two years ago...just started using knee sleeves and wish I would have done it sooner. Definitely like how they feel while doing any sore of leg work or lifts.

Being an old dude I joke around that I should just go ahead and invent a full body sleeve and make millions

I don't think I need to dignify this, but since you've asked:
Yes. I had a torn meniscus in my left knee, for which I had a meniscectomy a few years ago. I'm not sure what "extreme weights" are. I don't handle weights that are world record territory, but I have set numerous state records in 2 different weight classes, and I just missed an American record earlier this year at the Pan Ams (red-lighted for stepping backwards at the top of 480# lift).

The knee sleeves that I wear at PL meets aren't for fashion, I assure you. I wear them because I am 43 and it takes me a long time to warm up, and when I do warm up, I want the joint to stay warm while I am waiting/recovering between lifts.

Hey Sean do you think everyone who does a lot of squatting could benefit from knee wraps? I have no knee issues yet.

Actual wraps - as opposed to just sleeves? There are pluses and minuses.
I read a decent article on this exact subject a few weeks ago.
