Anybody have the info at their fingertips? I have a bunch of PVC pipes that I thought I'd fill up to make cheap-o weights. I can cut them to order for various amounts of poundage.

I suspect it varies.

You can also use sand or re-bar inside the PVC. Easier than mixing and pouring concrete. "Standard" exercise bars - the 1" kind - also make good practice weights. Cheep too, especially used.

Well then...anybody know the density of sand? :-)

OK, I googled (should have done that first) and have decided to solve two problems, fitness training and waste disposal.

Garbage, household rubbish = 481 kg/m^3

Or, for those of us too lazy to do the conversions:

Aluminum: 166#/cu ft
Asphalt: 81#/cu ft
Common brick: 120#/cu ft
Concrete: 150#/cu ft
Crushed Rock: 95#/cu ft
Iron casting: 450#/cu ft
Lead: 708#/cu ft
Spruce or fir lumber: 62#/cu ft
Oak lumber: 62#/cu ft
Portland cement: 94#/cu ft
River sand: 120#/cu ft
Steel: 490#/cu ft
Water: 62.5#/cu ft
1" steel plate: 40.8#/sq ft
