If you've ever seen these, you'll remember them. I believe York stopped making them quite a while ago. Anybody know where I might find some? I'm getting my son into the game and could use some light bumpers that could be dropped. Thanks

Kurt, Read through this thread: http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/26/21165.html
When this thread came out, we ordered a second set of bumper plates from Gill as well and got a great deal on the solid rubber plates. We also ordered the lighter sizes, like what you're looking for, in the training plates (I believe it was these: http://www.gillathletics.com/GillIte...px?FSID=WT225R). As long as you don't drop them from way overhead, especially with added weight, they will be great. You'll get a 20% CF discount w/Gill and they are very helpful w/any questions you have. I have heard those lighter weight, yellow solid rubber plates are no longer made-if that is the York plate you're talking about. |

Fitness Warehouse Inc., out of Missouri has 10# bumpers for $15 each. I have used them for a couple of years in a school setting w/o problems. Well, they are a bit larger than standard plates (1/2 or less) AND they only fit "regulation" bars, ie. Chapman, York, etc. THEY WILL NOT FIT A POWERBAR unless you took a Dremel to the inserts. They are much more rigid than the BFS/ Kraiburgs. You can drop them But I wouldn't recommend it. Hey, they are cheap and they work for what I need them for. Fitness Warehouse doesn't have a web site the last time I checked, if anyone is interested I dig out the phone#. .02

These might work. We have had an pair in our weight room for five years, and not a problem. Our original floor was concrete, and now we have a sample platform. My recommendation is though that you do not drop them if they are the only plates on the bar. Karl |

Kurt,
I found a couple of choices in 10 pounders for you: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ANFENU/ref=nosim/103-4330140-8000654?n=3375 251 http://bsolympicgym.com/proddetail.asp?prod=2290 The ones from BS Olympic cost a few bucks more but Scott has been known to work with Crossfitters (i.e. includes shipping). |
