I just installed a chin-up bar underneath my deck using plumbing parts from Home Depot. Total cost $25.
Here are the pics: Here you see the parts. I have the same system but it is on the face of my deck not hanging on the rafters. Only problem with mine is I didnt make it wide enough. I should have made mine with 48" width.. Still works. Good pullup bar it should last a long time..

How much does it wiggle while kipping or does it? Looks good to me. I might give it a try.

Joseph, It's pretty stable - the deck shakes more then the mounted bar (old deck).
Dennis, I might end up moving it to the outside or making it hang lower. The old noggin is getting too close to impacting the joist. |

I am about ready to put up a similar set up in my garage. I was going to use a 36" pipe. Should I go for 48" instead???

Here's a question: do you guys think this could work for an angled joist? Obviously I'd have to have two different vertical pipe lengths to compensate and ensure the horizontal piece is horizontal, but would that make the moment on the longer side large enough to possibly break the screws if I start kipping pretty good? Just covering my bases.
