Blue sapphire or diamond?

As a engagement ring?

Sapphire cheesy or not?
Diamond .. Round or princess?

Thoughts?

Well, I can think of one person whose opinion matters about 1000x more than any of ours on here....

What one person sees as the ideal cut/color/ring style often varies completely from what another person likes. Your best bet is to listen for her to drop subtle hints, or talk to her friends and family. It's all a matter of personal taste. I guarantee she's told someone what her idea of a perfect ring looks like.

Agreed. However, if you want to go at it completely solo, heres what I learned when I was engaged. Princess looks bigger, so if it's a small rock, that's good. If not, round is more natural looking. Round, I think, is also a safer bet if you have no idea which to choose.
On getting a sapphire, make sure you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she would want that. If she's wanted a diamond forever and the box opens and this blue thing is staring at her, it might not be pretty.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes her opinion matters of course , But I was looking for thoughts.

Sapphire have a long fairy tale history.

Diamonds... Well I have been on this planet long enough to have learned, more sparkly the stone, the more giggles that are heard.

Yet as a stock player, and having dabbled in diamond mine plays, diamonds are not rare , nor do the hold their value. There is a reason why diamonds are forever; cause you will get less then half of what you paid for it.
So I am a bit jaded here.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

I would suggest the preserved hand of a small african child in lieu of a diamond.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

Well if that was a concern... I would be solely be looking at Kimberly diamonds, and avoiding conflict stones. Given the fact I am Canadian, so the bias is there already.

Btw Daniel, how many of those miners that work the Bingham mine are just a paycheck above poverty line?

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

As above, if she has her heart set on a diamond - look out!
However, if she's agreeable, I say go with the Sapphire.
I had a paralegal in my last firm who had a beautiful sapphire surrounded by many small diamonds as her engagement ring.
I always thought it was awesome.

Re: Blue sapphire or diamond?

If she's into CF and active, go with a round Bezel set ring. It's a little different, classy and great if you are active.

I am 1000% sure that would be the wrong way to go.

If I know anything about women, it would be this.
