CF works in the real world

Several weeks ago my partner and I got into a foot pursuit with a guy that was about 10-15 years younger than me. I am 37 years old. After about 150 meters I lost my partner and at 350 meters the suspect, who was considerably faster than I was stopped sat down and gave up gasping "I can't breathe". At the end I was still able to talk on the radio to tell other officers where I was and give the suspect commands to take him into custody. If you are in L.E. and have not drank the Kool-Aid start now. You owe it to yourself, your family, and the citizens you protect.

Re: CF works in the real world

I love hearing stories about CrossFit working in the real world! Especially when they are from Police Officers from my hometown keeping my family and friends safe!

Thanks for all you do!

As an aspiring police officer this is a great testimonial for me to read. Something to think about during my next WOD.

Wow - excellent story - thank you for sharing!

And most importantly - thank you for serving in law enforcement. The citizens you protect are some lucky folks

Re: CF works in the real world

I've noticed that I kind of forget sometimes just how fast and far I can run. I am safety crew for motorcycle roadracing. We have these traps of pea gravel that are designed to slow bikes down when they crash or go off course. Well, they slow people down, too. They are hard as hell to sprint through when wearing heavy boots. When a bike crashes, I'll take a few trotting steps and then just find overdrive and truck on out there. I'll start at the same pace as my fellow cornerworker, but then realize that I have a whole other source of energy in the tank. By the time my fellow cornerworker reaches me, usually the bike is already picked up while they recover their breath.

The downside is that I sweat like crazy. Once that oxidative pathway kicks in to recharge some of the spent energy, maaan do I get hot!

Isn't it nice that you can outrun young guys, even when they have a lot of motivation to outrun you?

Re: CF works in the real world

Sweet man.

No offense to your partner but done after 150m is kinda sad as an LEO. Well, maybe a little offense intneded. Is he going to join you in CrossFit by chance after that little occurance.

Even for the suspect to be done after 350m. I guess it's good that he can't run, but only 350m is pretty bad too.

Great job.

Re: CF works in the real world

Great story.

The best part is not being out of breath and able to communicate. That means you had plenty in the tank if the cornered rat decided to fight back at the end.
