It seems that the GHD is being used to a greater extent now in the WOD - and given that I want to build my home gym - what GHD would my fellow crossfitters suggest?
Thanks! |

I have an older version of the EliteFTS.com GHD that I found used on-line. I like it a lot.

If you want a GHB for roman chair sit ups, (largely what is practiced by the CrossFit community) then the device does not have to be suitable for the Glute Ham exercise.
On the other hand, if you want to perform the Glute Ham exercise then you need to own a bench from a company that makes good stuff. The base must be stable. There needs to footplate to push against with the heels during the movement. Finally, it needs to be adjustable to fit properly. There is a world of difference between properly executed GHR and almost GHR. On really strong people (2x bodyweight squats) I've rarely watched anyone knock out 5 unassisted GHR on day one. These guys make a great bench http://www.flexcart.com/members/elit...id=167&pid=679 My next unit will be from them. I own one from Armor Strength. The bench from Bigger, Faster, Stronger looks good as well as PowerLift. Pricey yes! But necessary to safely execute the movement without compromise. This shows the proper start position about as well as any. http://asp.elitefts.com/images/uploa...am%20Raise.jpg LIVE STRONG! |

You hold onto the bars as you mount the GHB and place your feet into position. You can also self spot while lowering during the eccentric phase.

Mike, you don't do these pushing into the heels, do you? I think you want the plate long enough to push into with your toes, often the cheap ones are short or not positioned right.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of another partial movement when you press through the heals. Good catch

GHD is such a rockin' piece of gear. Starting from scratch on a home gym, I would put it 6/7 on a list of purchases (bumpers, bar, rings (can easily be made) DBs, Rower, GHD, dball) A friend of mine bought this one and likes it:
