1st time doing cleans...critique

Not sure why I yanked at the beginning of the first pull. I think I was nervous because I was being taped. Anyway, besides that and the slow/low elbows any pointers for someone just getting into the Oly lifts?

Re: 1st time doing cleans...critique

You've been doing CF for 2 months (saw that on another thread), your affiliate has decent-looking lifting platforms and that's the first time they've had you do cleans? That seems moderately ridiculous to me...

Anyhoo, that's not bad at all for a first session. Looks like you've got a lot more hip extension you can harness. You should end up standing up nearly straight, like the middle picture in the progression I attached. That lack of extension means the bar stays a little further away from your body than you'd like, so it is harder to get the elbows around quickly and completely.

Well the first 6 weeks was their ramp up and I missed a week of that when I went on a cruise for my sisters wedding. So they may have done them during the week I missed. Thanks for the pointer on the hips. Any cues to remind me of that while lifting?

Think get tall then aggressively pull yourself down under the bar.

Re: 1st time doing cleans...critique

There would be a few points I'd have you work on but the first thing you need to work on is your start position. You need to keep your shoulders over the bar, chest up, arms loose. From the start position to the second key phase should start off extremely slow, not yanking off the floor. Think a manual car, starting in 1st gear and shifting up. You need to be in control of the bar, not the bar controlling you.

I've got photos of each sequence on my facebook page if you want to have a look. A like's always helpful too ;-)

Check your front rack position as well. Remember, "finger tip grip" and drive your elbows up until your arms are parallel to the ground.

Should feel much better on your wrist. If you are unsure of the finger tip grip, google or have your coach show you.
