Constantly tired and lathargic.... Please help!

Everyday without fail im tired and feel like iv no energy. Im a carpenter/roofer by trade and train 5-6 days a week(crossfit and football, normally have a game every 2nd week). I do have very early starts for work (5.15am wake up) and try to get a minimum of 6 and a half to 7 hours sleep a night. But find myself having to rely on a mix of cola and redbull to get myself through the day(all of which i dont like to much without vodka anyway )

Is there anything else i can do or what could it be. Please dont say more sleep because its just not possible with my work, training and girlfriend.

  • Don't over-train
  • Eat well and enough
  • Sleep well and enough
  • Manage your stress
and this:

Please dont say more sleep
may still be part of the answer, whether you want to hear it or not. Your body could care less about your work, training, and girlfriend. It wants its sleep, and it is going to remind you about that until you change your habits.

Well, I'm guessing you can't change your work hours.
And you probably don't want to spend less time with your girlfriend.
So you need to train less.

Sorry, but your body couldn't care less what you think your priorities are. Depending on Red Bull and Coke will be a lot worse for your training (and your overall health) than taking an extra rest day or two.

Re: Constantly tired and lathargic.... Please help!

Nutrition is ok, i eat Cereal/Oatmeal for breckfast. Meat and salad sandwiches for lunch, with cookies or some sort of candy and normally a hearty dinner of meat, potatoes, assorted veg and some Ice cream.

How can i improve on this or is this bad???? We work hard and fast so sometimes we just grab what we can from a deli or petrol station and get back to work.

I wish i could sleep more but i really dont have the time, i try to catch up on all my sleep on sunday but with the early starts the rest of the week im normally awake at 7ish so i head to the Gym for a light workout or ride my bike to the bakery for some fresh bread.

Thanks for the info man

That's rather a lot of sugars, starches and other carbohydrates. You're probably sugar crashing a lot. Have you checked the zone diet or paleo diet?

@ Katherine

I understand what you mean. At the moment im training for Football 2 nights a week(i play WR/DB for a semi pro team here in Germany) and 2-3 night crossfit. If i cut back on one the other suffers so it just sucks as i dont know what or were to start. The season is nearly finshed so i suppose when its over things might get better.

Iv heard about Paleo but not Zone. I`ll look into them in more depth and see what would best suit me.

I was having the same issue. I didn't even have enough energy to train> I would get all dressed up in my workout clothes and then change my mind and nap on the couch. I did a little research and discovered magnesium. Started taking it at bedtime and viola! Problem solved.
