Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

There was definitely some vaseline making GSP slick. Enough to change the outsome? I couldn't say. All I know is B.J. needs to grow up. I'm a huge fan of his, but he needs to make a comeback and destroy k-flo.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

I love how a thread titled "Thoughts on BJ Penn" has turned into a GSP thread.

GSP is awesome.

I personally like both fighters. GSP is a great athlete and bj is when he wants to be. I think at 155 penn is best and that is where he needs to be. GSP is great where he is at.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

Agree witht the above posters that BJ looked better at the smaller weight classes. As far as BJ's "body building" program that the original poster alluded to. What's up with that. I thought BJ was all about crossfit. At least that is what the BJ quote says that pops up on the left hand side of the mainpage every couple weeks. I am being sarcastic of course.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

I'm a fan of both Penn and GSP. There was definitely some grease applied by Nurse, he even admitted as much, though he said it was by accident. Did it affect the outcome of the fight? Probably not, Penn was just outclassed that night. Even so, since greasing is proved to have taken place they probably should have changed the outcome to a no contest. It's an unfortunate situation because both fighters now have labels attached to them afterwards. GSP as a cheater, and Penn as a crybaby....unfortunate.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

BJ and GSP could have been wearing full velcro suits and it wouldn't have made any difference that night. What you saw was a very good technical fighter facing a great athlete who was very prepared and also happens to be a very good technical fighter.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

I both love & hate BJ. As an athlete without much talent but a ton of work ethic it just seems like a waste to watch him be that gifted and **** it away.

Re: Thoughts on BJ Penn.

Even Dana White admitted that the Vaseline was only applied during the 1st round, and was wiped off. It wouldn't explain Bj being owned in rounds 2 and 3

I guess reasonable minds can differ - but it was pretty clear that SOME amount of grease was used by Phil Nurse (and maybe others) on GSP's body during the fight.
I'm not saying Vaseline wasn't applied. but Dana said it was during the pre fight prep, was wiped off by officials. Look at the video, do you honestly see his entire back and sides slathered in Vaseline thick enough to make a significant difference 3 rounds later?
