CrossFit in Paris

Does anyone know of a CrossFit in Paris? I travel there on a quarterly basis (spend about 1 week there each quarter) and miss doing CrossFit when I'm there. It's difficult to do any workout in Paris other than an early morning run (before the city is congested with traffic) and do push-ups, sit-ups, and squats in the hotel room!

Re: CrossFit in Paris

I just moved to Paris and am missing Crossfit a lot. Unfortunately, there is no Crossfit gyms over here right now, though some of the French health and fitness forums have started to discuss the concept.

In fact, even the gyms over here are not as well equiped as Canadian or American gyms. Someone told me that a few years ago, the gyms started to take away a lot of the free weights, and Olympic lifting bars because of concerns over injury and insurance. So in most Parisian gyms, you find a lot of Universal style equipment, but little free weight stuff. And I've yet to find a gym that has a pullup bar on which I can do a kipping pullup.

I did see on a discussion board somewhere that there is a gym here about to start to do the Crossfit training this year, but now I cannot find the link. I will try to find it...

I've taken to doing Tabata routines at home, such as squats, push-ups, V-sits and tricep dips. But, an Olympic lifting bar would be great once in a while as well as a pull-up bar.

can't help but be reminded of this:
In France, Jogging Is a Running Joke (wfs)

If I could live in Paris and open up an affiliate, I'd be living the dream.

Victor and Colleen, how much start up capital do you guys have?

Maybe I should get a certification...?

Space is pretty expensive to rent over here, but it might be a good risk!! How is your french?

Re: CrossFit in Paris

Thanks for responding, Victor and Jeff! I'll be going to Paris again the week after next and am resigned to doing my morning run, squats, push-ups and sit-ups. I stay in Place d'Italie when I am there and sometimes go to the gym there - Club Gymnase. It does have free weights but is a poor substitution for a CrossFit facility.

I am in fact interested in opening a CrossFit affiliate- but not in Paris My French is not good enough to even consider it! If the two of you move forward with the idea I will come visit you whenever I am there!

Re: CrossFit in Paris

I'm new to Cross Fit but I really enjoy it. I'm French born and raise, and I've been living in California for the past 10 years.

However I'm going to move back to Paris. So where is the conversation at about around Cross Fit and Paris?

Thanks,
-Noah

Re: CrossFit in Paris

Any new news here? I'm moving to Paris in Jan 2010.

Crossfit France is way too far from Paris. They had plans to open up a gym in Paris, but it looks like the plans got set back. Not sure how much experience any of the trainers have.

I sent them a message asking about crossfit friendly gyms in Paris, but received no response. Anyone know some good gyms?

I have dual citizenship if someone else has that start up capital! Though I would need to get certified first...

Re: CrossFit in Paris

I am moving to Paris in the beginning of next month and would be really interested in organizing at least a crossfit group that could meet somewhere on a regular basis. I don't have any start capital for an affiliate, but I agree that crossfit france is too far away from the city. If any one is interested in organizing something please get back to me, or if you know of any crossfit friendly gyms in the city I would appreciate that info as well. Thanks

I haven't found anything yet, but I haven't looked that hard.

What about you Noah? Are you living in Paris?
