I'm just curious as to the differences using dumbbell versus a barbell movement. For instance assume one was doing a 100lb barbell bench press. I'd guess that one would have to use less weight with dumbbells but get a balanced strength movement on both sides. Also, how does one do a push press with a dumbbell and other sililiar exercises. Seems as though a barbell would be much better. I ask because I ahve dumbbells at home and am looking for equivalent type workouts for when I don't make the gym, Thanks for all the advice and apologies for so many questions.

I'm forwarding your question to Coach Rut. He has a DVD on dumbbells that is exceptional. Should be required kit for all CrossFitters along with Starting Strength.

Danny-

In my practice and with the movements we use, we have noticed that it can be up to 10% difference. You could reduce your load by 10% depending upon the movement. Instead of debating the load differences use both to optimize your training stimulus whenever possible. We have found this to be the optimal environment.

RUTMAN

BTW- Thanks Jeff
