I've gone to the split snatch as well and find it's easier for me to get under the weight and balanced. I don't see what parallel has anything to do with it. competition lifts they don't judge on parallel. and from what I've seen in the crossfit competitions, their verbage usually doesn't match the movement - for instance say clean and jerk when in fact it's ground to overhead...

games 12.2 - snatches could be any style - ground to overhead, no clean and jerk / press
