I have searched the archives already with limited success. So I am asking for advice.

After a particularly difficult WOD what should I eat?


I have Zoned with great success since Jan 07. I am down about 25lbs and a strong as I have ever been. However, I am concerned with eating after a workout. I wonder should I eat more carbs ie a bagel, with my normal zone blocks. I workout at 3 pm each day with a snack about 20 mins before and supper around 5 pm.

Hope this makes sense!

If you're concerned with staying strict zone you can subtract 2-3 CHO/PRO blocks from other meals and eat them PWO. Theres also the option of working out one of your meals or snacks PWO.

Just because you're looking to replenish muscle glycogen stores doesnt mean you have to turn towards high glycemic index (HGI) processed foods. Fruit, Yams, Sweet Potatoes and Squash are all excellent options as they are LGI, nutrient dense, and contain antioxidants which aid in recovery and overall health.

I think the general consensus is that for workouts sub 30-45 min or so you don't necessarily need to eat afterwards, as you're not taxing your glycolic (?) system as much during that short of a time.

But if you must eat, David's advice sounds good... I'm debating how much I know of this topic as I type this :biggrin:...
