Storage Unit Gym
Hi All,
I've been looking through the Board for inspiration as I was setting up my home gym which is located in a storage unit. Apartment living in Toronto made a garage gym unrealistic so after some research I found a storage facility that didn't mind me setting up a gym in the unit. It's climate controlled and at 10x15 the size is perfect. I picked up most of the equipment from Fitness Depot here in Toronto, they were great. I bought some iron plates off CL for dirt cheap and got the stall mats from Canadian Tire. All together the equipment came to less than $1500. It includes the rack, bar, 45 and 25 lb bumpers, 400 lbs in steel weight, 12,16,24kg kettlebells, 20 lb wall ball and slam balls, powerblocks that have the add on for 70 pounds, rings, bench, and a home made 20x24x36 plyo box. Feel free to post any questions. Here are some pictures wfs |

Re: Storage Unit Gym
There was a box in HAwaii that was run out of a storage facility. A bunch of the N Shore surfers would train there. Don't think it is open anymore.

Re: Storage Unit Gym
The unit rents for about $170 a month, you get the first month free. My girlfriend and I crossfit together so it is actually economical for us, as affiliates around here cost between 150-200/month for each of us.
The matts from Canadian Tire were 29.99 I believe, they work perfect. I have some true stall mats from a farm supply store as well and they are a little thicker, that's the main difference. |

Re: Storage Unit Gym
Awesome idea. What's the ceiling height? Is there power points in there; setup a fridge for water post workout food?

Re: Storage Unit Gym
Very creative. Was there anything in the rental unit contract prohibiting this type of use for the space? I know I've seen guys park their cars in storage units but curious if there's anything in the contract about exercise or basic non-storage use...

Re: Storage Unit Gym
Ceiling height is just over 9 feet, and unfortunately no power outlets.
Only restrictions in the contract are no commercial use and no sleeping in the units. |

This is a cool idea!
What are the mats called at CT? I need to get some for my basement. |
