Yeah, with the O lifts I'm really surprised we don't see someone broken in half the wrong way.
You gotta love the ones where some skinny goof is video taping himself fail with about 150lbs. |

I found an intresting stat from the USAW club coach manual that states the percentage of injuries per 100 participant hours in school sports and oly lifting was the lowest with a .0017 chance of injury. So oly lifting with proper equipment and instruction is actually a very safe sport when compaired to others. I personally have dropped the barbell on my head twice but have been able to escape injury. My worst injury with oly lifting so far came from losing control of the barbell on the catch of a clean and droping the barbell on my knee. I was out for about 3 weeks but that was it. Has anyone else had injuries from oly lifting?

I hit myself in the larnyx about once a month when doing high rep cleans. Typically it's just a glancing blow when I get tired and sloppy, but in December I hit myself so hard I blacked out. That wasn't a high rep situation either, I think I had 255# on the bar. Managed to pitch it forward as I was falling back so no long term damage.
My son freaked out, it was almost worth the pain to get such an unflinching show of affection out of a tres cool 17 year old. |
