Starting crossfit with previous shoulder surgery - what to avoid?
A bit over a year ago I had shoulder surgery for SLAP and bankart tears and it has recovered well (apart from current small niggle on other thread, but I think that's minor). I'm thinking of taking up Crossfit but have read here that there are certain movements that may be best avoided following this surgery. Can someone in the know please list what these are for me please? I have absolutely no desire to put my shoulder at risk by doing things I can live without. I would be doing Crossfit for fitness not competition.

Kipping pullups and muscleups would probably be the biggest no-nos.

there is a lot that could hurt with almost any functional movement using your upperbody....just be careful with it and listen to your body....go big or go home...you don't always want to have one arm out the door...just take it slow and don't be stupid don't know how else to put it but if your really worried about your shoulder that much than don't do crossfit....I think you can do all of it just be careful and listen to your body and start/progress slow

Selina I have had people get back to everything after shoulder surgery but it takes a while to get there and you certainly should be starting at a low enough level and ramping up gradually.
