Hey guys, I need some help with my pull-ups. Every time I do pull-ups my shoulders are working overtime, while my back is barely there. It's great for shoulder strength, but they can only take so much (11 PR). It's also a killer when doing weighted pull-ups, barely can pull any weight.
Any ideas on how to force the back to work?

what kind of grip are you using? consider changing it from time to time to alter the feel and muscle recruitment

imagine you're pulling into a front lever, i.e. before you even bend the arms, rotate the torso back somewhat through lat contraction. this seems to help people get the feel for bringing in more back contribution.

I always had this problem until I figured out that I don't pull with my arms, I push down with my elbows. I know it sounds weird, but it's an old trick a vintage gym rat taught me and it worked for me.
