Two months after 4 broken bones, shoulder still hurts, what now?

Back in Late June I crashed (SFW) mountain biking. I did the recommended mobility exercises until I was recovered to the point where I could stop taking the narcotics. Then after a few more weeks I started doing the diesel crew shoulder rehab protocol on 8/9.

My strength has increased to the point that I can do push-ups again, but my shoulder hurt the day after, and not 'good sore hurt' but more bad 'arthritis' hurt. So I laid off those. My shoulder didn't hurt following deadlift or rowing, but should I lay off those too, until my shoulder is pain-free?

I'm taking 2x2g of fish oil per day, and eating a pretty close to paleo/zone diet. Is there any thing I should or shouldn't be doing?

I'm afraid that the pain in my shoulder might be my bodies steady-state "reaction" to having a four inch slab of orthopedic implant jammed in there. In every prior injury, first I'd get hurt. Then I'd try to work out, realize that it was an injury not soreness, lay off the affected area, then gradually build it back up with strength and ROM exercises. What's different now?

Thanks,
Brent

Are you still icing and massaging?

For now you probably need to focus on more mobility work + icing, massage, and possibly more but that depends on your situation.

In general, things that don't hurt are fine.

It would be advisable to talk to a physical therapist about this.

Re: Two months after 4 broken bones, shoulder still hurts, what now?

Two more months.

Last week, my shoulder was feeling pretty good... so I started doing yellow band PT exercises, which felt find during. Following them I thought I had DOMS, but it hasn't gotten better. I just have an "arthritic" ache in my collarbone. the implant is painful the touch. It feels very similar to the last time I had metal in my shoulder... that time the implant was removed (and my pain went away).

I KNOW, I KNOW... I shouldn't have exercised... I've learned my lesson.

At this point I would see a doctor but my insurance won't cover my shoulder injury and I have literally no money. An Ortho will hopefully take a look at my shoulder next week as a charity case.

I've been taking cod liver oil (2xtsp), some sun (20 min/day), fish oil (2x2g/day), and I eat mostly paleo (plus milk and cheese). I just bought some ice packs.

Between now and Monday what modality would you recommend? How much ice, how often, how much massage, any sauna?

thanks,
Brent

Same rest and massage I recommend in the tendonitis post would work:

I'd stay away from the sauna for now until you get it checked... especially if there's any swelling. Bones in general always get ice..

thanks a lot steve. i've tried icing several times per day and doing pure rest and its gotten to the point where sometimes it's not aching. I might see an ortho tomorrow, but now i don't really know what they can do for me.

good chance that your labrum is torn. But you going to need insurance to get fixed or pay out of pocket.
let us know what the ortho thinks

Man that piece of info makes a hell of a difference in pinpointing
the problem. Hardware can make for alot of funky feelings and discomfort.

I thought i covered it in the first post:

No worries.

I went to an ortho today. He x-rayed it, and did a bunch of ROM and strength tests. He seriously doubts I tore the labrum. He thinks it's just doing what it's doing and it hurt from overuse at this stage of recovery. So he lay off strength anything, maybe do a bit of a certain stretch, but that was about it.
