BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

The other day, I forgot to take my pre workout. I usually take AtLarge Nutrition Pre-Workout. I went in without any pre-workout and set a 2 minute PR time on Jackie. That got me thinking: Do I really need to take a Pre-Workout or should I just take BCAA's? Thoughts?

Let's just say when you and your girl (or guy) are walking down the street late one night and you have to fight off a mugger I doubt you'll have time to take your pre-workout.

Re: BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

Agreed with everybody else. If you absolutely needed to have a pre-workout to perform well, either your body would have become dependant on the supplement (I'm not sure if that's possible with any pre-workout ingredients actually so nobody crucify me on that), or you'd have a mental block telling yourself you need to have the supplement to do well. The human body is capable of generating all the signals it needs to perform optimally all by itself.

Re: BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

I don't necessarily mean "need" as in it being a necessity, what I meant was more along the lines of if I'm not seeing a performance boost from the pre-workout, should I just take straight BCAAs, which are in the pre-workout I take?

Re: BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

No, I understand that. I was speaking hypothetically.

I don't think you need the BCAAs pre-workout either. Especially if you take a post-workout protein shake like a lot of people do, that usually has the neccessary protein profile, at least if you are using AtLarge stuff for that too.

Re: BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

I dont take any preworkout formulas and never will. Personally i take 10 to 20grams of bcaa's. Prevents muscle catabolism and starts feeding your muscles immediately. No prepackaged pre workout stuff for me.

Re: BCAA vs. Pre-Workout

A couple of points:

1) No one NEEDS a pre-workout, but they can help most users if properly formulated.
2) No drug or supplement works for 100% of the population. Some people get nothing from creatine, some get nothing from caffeine and so on. If you find a supplement doesn't work for you then don't use it.

Not if you have handy-dandy IV tubes attached to a canister or mask like Bane.
Click and be VENOMIZED.

I'm sure an Epi-shot would do the trick. Bam! and Go Time.
