Troy VTX Bumper Plates

Does anybody have any experience with these plates? http://www.gtechfitness.com/troyvtx4...platepair.aspx wfs

We were given a pair to test. I thought they were great. After 2 days though, one of the plates no longer fits on any of our bars. It took a good 5 minutes to get the plate off the first bar it was stuck. We did check multiple bars, and the same result. It's almost like the diameter shrank.

I've never heard of anything like this before. Does anybody have any experience with these plates, or even this issue?

I use them when I'm at work (45, 35, 25, 10's) and have had no issues. I use them on a Rogue bar if that makes any difference.

The metal insert must be slightly squashed from the plate being dropped.

Re: Troy VTX Bumper Plates

Danny,

We deal Troy plates and have never seen nor heard of that happening. We mostly have the black plates, but I don't believe they are any different. Can you tell if the metal insert has been squashed, like John said? And how much weight did you drop it with?

Troy Barbell is usually pretty on top of their game, so I would be surprised if you aren't PM'd by one of their reps for more info before too long, even though you were given them as testers. Did that gtech company give them to you?

Re: Troy VTX Bumper Plates

Well made in my experience with them. I consider them better than any other economy bumper out there(Ive used wright, hi temp, and kraigburg) as far as durability goes. They don't bounce super high, which is a big plus if you have to dump a weight.

Just make sure you get the steel inserts when ordering. A lot of sites are still selling the vtx with brass inserts(trying to get rid of old stock).

Re: Troy VTX Bumper Plates

Guess I should clarify, the site I posted is just for reference. We received the plates from a local sporting goods vendor.

The plates have steel inserts.

I put one 45# plate on each side (so 135# total) and dropped it from overhead 15+ times plus a few times from shoulder and waist level. As far as I know, I was the only one to use these plates.

I'm glad to hear this appears to be an isolated incident.
