Again Faster

We used DBs, as I haven't figured out a good way to jam Oly bars into a Ford Focus for the trip to the Pond.

The front and back squats became regular 'ol squats, two sets of 5 separated by the push presses.

It was 35 degrees when we hit the workout.

Jon (30# DBs): 20 rounds plus
Thor (30# DBs): 18 rounds
Sammy (25# DBs): 19 rounds
Ilene (20# DBs): 21 rounds plus

Painstorm XIX was a gut-check. It's nice to have everyone's expectations reset to a higher level.

My first Painstorm, performed on November 6 2006

16 rounds

My goal was at least 15 rounds so I'm happy I managed that. The shoulder burning was killing me from holding the rack position in the front squats to doing the push presses. The transition from the push press to the back squat wasn't great in the beginning and I thought "HM..maybe I shouldn't hit myself on the back of the neck with a 70# weight."

21 rounds and change, then I went out dancing for my birthday.


The DOMS is killing me right now, I have to grunt to get in and out of a car.

Still hurting today....it was funny - during the workout we called out time every 10 minutes and there was a collective group "groan" when time was called out the first time. It really was a mental workout.

Thanks Jeff and Davie, that was a good one. Up there with "Olympic Bar Mile"....

Tweaked it subsstantially. Crossposted here because I did like it.

Original idea was to do 100 reps of each exercise(equivalent to 20 rounds). But I upped the weight substantially to 135. Then after the first few exercises I realized there was no way I had it in me to do 100 reps each, so I cut out the back squats, and cut the reps to 50.

So what I did was:

135# times 50 reps of each exercise:
Deadlift
Hang Power Clean
Front Squat
Push Press

Partition sets/exercises as needed to get it done for time.

40:00 even. 200 reps total.

DLs done conventional to lower than usual, due to 3-4 inch platform/rack at Bally's(platform stops at edge of rack). No jerking the push press. Clocked my nose hard at the 12 minute mark on a push press.

I hit a wall. Not sure if it was lack of eating or what. I had nothing. This thing killed me. Surprised me considering I can knock out a 3:30 Grace.


Partitions as follows:
DL:15,15,10,10
HPC:15,10,10,7,8
FS:10,15,11,14
PP:10x5

But I liked it. Might put it into the rotation.

Good to see Painstorm going from strength to strength. Can't wait to get back to them next year. Actually can't wait to get my hands on a barbell, practicing O-lifts with an ironing bored...well it's just silly but worth it to watch other people smack themselves in the head with it trying. Keep on getting some Davie, Karl, Kempie, Jeff and you other lunatics.
