Back squat before or after running time trial

The WOD at our box today calls for 3x5 Back Squats at 80% max and a 2 mile time trial. In order to get max results from both and to avoid injury, would it be better to run or weight train first?

Squat first, run second. Strength work should pretty much always come before conditioning.

The squats will cost you some time off your run, but running first would absolutely destroy your ability to squat even somewhat heavy.

Re: Back squat before or after running time trial

Ended up doing squats 3x5 back squats at 80% first, pr'd a 1x5, and then ran the time trial. It was about a minute slower than I expected, but still felt strong.

I would have needed quite a bit of time between to recover had it been done in reverse.

thanks!

I dont completely agree with that last part, that it would destroy your ability to lift even remotely heavy.

Having said that I'd still have done the heavy first, running second.

It really depends how strong your squat is I think. But I agree with Eric that running 2 miles for time before squatting will probably destroy your squatting ability.

Agreed...you are going to have a ton of lactic acid floating around that will impede your run results but you don't want to risk getting zapped from your run and tweaking something and injuring yourself if your oly lift after.

Re: Back squat before or after running time trial

To get the best results you should wait three to four hours after your lift to run.
