My wife started Crossfit with me right at 7 weeks ago. She's lifted weight before, and has a good base knowledge, but was intimidated by Crossfit. She tried even though she was nervous, and quickly found out how much she likes it.
We're not the best, the fastest, the strongest or the fittest, but we run our own race, and give it everything we can.

Anyway, we remeasured our body compositions this week and she has made some great progress:

She's lost 4% BF in 7 weeks, losing 6 pounds of fat and gaining 4 pounds of muscle. (from 138 @ 30% to 137 @ 26%). I can't even tell you how proud I am of her.

This is a girl who comes from no background of athletics; never encouraged to play sports. We started getting serious about our health several years ago, and she has steadily made major improvements.

My results haven't been quite as dramatic as hers--I lost 3 pounds of fat and gained 3 pounds of muscle (145 @ 16% to 145 @ 14%). Now that's nothing to sneeze at either in 7 weeks, but hardly compares to her!

So that's our story. We're completely converted and spreading the word. We've recruited several of our friends across the country to try Crossfit too.

The Average Jane and Joe wildly underestimates the accomplishment of trading in X amount of bodyfat for the same amount of muscle. They simply look at the scale and think there has been no progress, but in fact it's a much bigger accomplishment than losing X amount of bodyfat and losing muscle too. One is a step towards fitness, the other a step towards yo-yo dieting.

Great job.

So true. Many people would look at a 1 pound difference on the scale and be very discouraged. Not knowing there is really a 10 pound net change. Not enough people have to tools or knowledge to know what is really happening and get disheartened.
