2 X 6 Glute Ham Station

I'm making a thicker pad to go on as this one kills. I screwed it to the floor and the wall to make it rock solid.

Wow that is amazing. I want to make my own. Do you have the dimensions or any instructions?

given this description of woodville, am guessing you don't just run down to the sporting good shop to pick up gym apparatus :-)

from wikipedia: "Woodville...is home to a grocery store, three restaurants, two variety stores, a post office, one gas station, a bank, a curling rink and an arena, two ball diamonds, assorted other shops, and a newer school, first built in 1923.

A mile-and-a-half to the east of Woodville is an auction sale barn which was opened in 1961 by Norman MacIntyre and his family. It is now the only auction co-op in Canada."

am surprised they don't mention the Hoogerdyk X-Fit Gym and handyman shop! :-)

clever lad! saved my allowance forever to get a concept 2...and had been bemoaning the years it would take me years to get a nice GHD...until you rescued the day! thanks!

Re: 2 X 6 Glute Ham Station

Thanks (especially the lad part -since I just turned 50)

And your right ,the type of store that sells a GHD is aways away- not to mention the cost. I just used some extra stuff I had around the workshop.

I didn't really do any measuring as I would be the only using it. I put the main i-beam about waist high and long enough for my legs. the beam in the pic is just a left over part of an old work bench . You could do just as well with apair of 2X6's screwed together.

I had abdominal surgery Feb 5 so I'm still on the mend. the area around it has been a dumping ground. I'll clear away all the junk and take some better pictures. If there is alot of interest I'll use google sketch and do up some good looking plans.

WOW - I'm very impressed. If only I had the skill...

And Mike, I do recall another thread a while back when someone made their own GHD in a different manner as well.

Re: 2 X 6 Glute Ham Station

it don't take much skill. All parts are screwed together. no glue any one could do it.

decoder ring translation: the shipping's a killer - ends up costing twice as much as the item itself...

very appreciative of the extra photos -- just downloaded them to a desktop folder for my project...of course, instead of calling it a GHD, mine will be known as the Hoogerdyk Device, in your honor (love that you have the initials GHD in your name - how appropriate)

the man has NO fear! certainly none of my business, but does your doctor know about your workshop creation? :-)

unless he's a x-fitter, am sure he would be freaked out...but while he's screaming, the rest of us are doffing our caps in admiration and respect for a job well done, and one, ever so cleverly inspired

the Elite has nothing on the Hoogerdyk Device

btw, love the snow in the background :-)

thanks! again, young master norman

Re: 2 X 6 Glute Ham Station

Thanks Mike
we Just had one of our biggest snowfalls of the year (about a foot and a half)
we are up to about 6 ft and a few more inches we will beat a 1939 record.

Ya this is my second surgery, I had a blocked bowel is Sept 07 and had that fixed , after 4 weeks the surgeon said it was now ok to do whatever I wanted . I no time my insision had heriated. In Feb I went back under the knife to repair and now he says 6 wks. I plan to wait 12 wks and then wil do alot of Tabata calastetics to raise my GPP until I get into the weights.

I have a 100# sandbag waiting for me as my tractor tire is buried in about 3 ft of snow. I also have a pair of Vibrem Five fingers waiting for the snow to melt!

woodville may be remote, but it would not seem home to any slackers! hope that the second (surgery) is the last, that you're all better in no time, and that the snow soon melts (so you can go play with that tractor tire!)

you're an inspiration - for both the Hoogerdyk Device ANNNNND for showing us how NOT to let a little abdominal surgery slow you down!

good on you!
