Is it normal for my knees to hurt when doing a 135# squat but not a 285# squat? Seems like it should be the other way around.

If I dont warm up properly mine always hurt. I usually ride a bike or do the C2 rower for a few minutes then I do about 3 light warm up sets before I start.

It could be that because you know that you can do the 135 easier, you are not as strict about your form or movement patterns.

A heavier squat will force you to use your muscles correctly, firing the hamstrings more....where as lighter weight will actually lead to more often improper muscle recruitment if you are not focusing on form. In other may be able to get away with 135 incorrectly....but 285, no chance or you would be hitting the floor in a your body works the way it is supposed to just by instinct.
