Starting For newcomers to the CrossFit methodology

Hi folks,

Doing Tabata at present like this

Squats, Push Ups & Sit Ups (no rest between exercises)

Current score = Squats 20 - Push Ups 15 - Sit Ups 21

How does that score?

How on God's earth did you get 21 sit ups in 20 seconds? I know I couldn't do that, at least un-anchored, maybe I should try it with my legs held or under something.

Me, my first time I did 21 squats, but my "specialty", due to my sport, is leg endurance. So you did pretty good. Especially considering the push-ups, I failed miserably there.

You might get sick of this answer but your score is really for you to better.Considering different people have different lever length etc it doesn't really matter what is a "best" or other people's score; only that you improve on your score.

Think of it this way,what ever you score,Know that you can do better.

Ditto, and doubling on the "compare yourself only to yourself" stuff.

You *are* scoring them as the minimum achieved across the 8 rounds of each exercise, yes?

That said, if those were full range-of-motion movements, those scores are just fine; better than most . . . certainly better than me.

I wonder if we are using the same methodology to score - did you do 8 rounds of each exercise? Because 160 squats in 4 minutes is pretty impressive, 120 pushups in the next 4 minutes sounds grueling, and 168 situps in the next four minutes sounds downright deadly!

By way of comparison, I did the Tabata This which is very similar - Squats, Pull-Ups, Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, and Rowing with 1 minute rest between exercises. My best round score was 43 and my worst was 35 - 13 squats, 4 pull-ups, 6 push-ups, 7 sit-ups, and 5 calories rowing. And I am not in bad shape although obviously not CrossFit yet.

In any case, nice job getting involved and good luck with the WOD, etc.

I scored it like this.

4 mins per exercise - no rest between, just straight onto the next one. Squats were bottom to bottom (and bloody hard), push ups and then sit ups.

It wasn't something that I would call 'fun', and it was rather intense, but the scores were correct.
