I started following the Zone and an intensive exercise program last week. I'm 5'6'', female. Last week I was 169lbs, ~26% body fat. Now I'm 162lbs. I know you initially lose water weight when you start a new program, but that's a lot of weight when I was maybe only about 20-25lbs overweight in the first place. Plus my clothes are definitely getting looser.

So should I be eating more blocks? Or is this normal when you first start the Zone? Right now I'm eating 10, as I thought I should eat less than the recommended amount to lose weight. I really don't want to hit ketosis, as I've heard that kind of weight loss usually isn't sustainable.

Depending on how you where eating pre zone. 7lb pound in the first week is not unherd of. I've droped less then that in fluid in a day to make weight for fights.

However you shouldn't be eating less then your recomemded blocks, (im guessing about 12/13 depending on your activity) your recommended number is designed to maintain your lean body mass and support your activity level. But not excess body fat there for you loss weight if you have it to loss.

Dropping you block number below your recomended number will cause you to loss weight faster yes, but because you will be losing muscle, something you dont want to do.
Go back to your recommended number and see how you fair.

P.S. We are the same height.I'm 147lb and 20%
