American Gladiator Tryouts

After reading about Becca Borowski's tryout, I started wondering how other CrossFitters would stack up against the new American Gladiators.

Here is the tryout with scores from 4-time Mr. Universe, Mike O'Hearn (aka "Titan," see wfs video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo1xbT2rYiE)

Event 1: max pull-ups in 30 seconds (palms away, kipping allowed)
O'Hearn: 35 (ROM suspect but still rather impressive)

Event 2: Circuit Course
For time:
10 up/downs (think burpee without the jump)
2 x 20' carioca using agility ladder (rungs 18" apart)
5 x 10 yard shuttle run (must touch a cone at each end)
O'Hearn: 50 seconds

Event 3: 40 yard dash
O'Hearn: 4.9 seconds (to put this in perspective, Deion Sanders runs a 4.6...backwards)

So how well can you guys do?

Damn! that is quite impressive. His fitness is outstanding. I sent in a video for this but never knew about any tryouts until they had already been through Texas... I would love to be a Gladiator!

Re: American Gladiator Tryouts

I'd rather compete against the gladiators . that seems like it would be a lot of fun.

What most impresses me is the explosive speed of those pullups -- without kipping, just pure pulling power.

I apologize in advance, but...

LINK IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK, or children for that matter

(link not posted, just google "Militia" and "American Gladiators""

The link says it all if you don't want or can't click on it. The link discusses the past film experience of another of the new American Gladiators.

After further thought, you can search it for yourself.

Re: American Gladiator Tryouts

Tim,
I am laughing very hard right now. I have that on DVD. The "shirley you can't be serious" special edition.

Joey:I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.

Roger Murdock: The hell I don't. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

Re: American Gladiator Tryouts

"Four time Mr. Universe winner, 2007 West Coast Strong Man Champ, California Judo Champ and four time California Power Lifting Champ, Mike O'Hearn has thrown his hat into the ring to become a Gladiator on the all new NBC American Gladiator series."

So much for all show and no go. That guy is solid.

Re: American Gladiator Tryouts

I can't remember what all my numbers were when I did those for my audition, but I will say that the standards they were enforcing were VERY lax. The people scorekeeping were not trained in any manner and weren't enforcing full ROM on pullups or the up-downs, or even to actually not tromp all over the agility ladder. We learned pretty quickly to just get from one end to the other on things without really being all that accurate, because it wasn't earning anyone anything to be accurate.
