I live in an apartment
I love the crossfit workouts but recently I moved into an apartment and I am working with limited resources. I bought a pull up bar so I can do all of the body weight exercises. Does any one have any suggestions on some equiptment I could buy to use in my apartment without driving my downstairs neighbor crazy. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks, Sean |

Re: I live in an apartment
Sean,
See my apartment... http://board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=37746 I'm on the first floor, so no downstairs neighbors. But seriously, you can go a long way with a pullup bar or rings, a few kettlebells, and a rower. Or you can take the kettlebells outside. I know Kelly Moore works out in her apartment, and I know there are others on here that do the same. If you need weights(non-bumpers) Play-It-Again-Sports has iron for 50 cents a pound and cheap bars that are good enough to get by. I just picked up an extra set of 45s and smaller stuff to fill out my set. |

Andy is on the right track. I'd definitely add a sandbag. You can do just about any exercise or WOD that requires weight with one. If you're worried about dropping it buy a crash pad(for bouldering), that should reduce the pounding greatly.
Paralletes are great too, and they take up very little space Make a medicine ball. Have fun! Keith |

Re: I live in an apartment
Those are some good ideas. I would say if anything get some kettlebells, they can be quite versatile. Well this is just my opinion, I got a whole bunch of them as well as a par of adjustable dumbells. Not the best set up but it can get something done.
Here is what I've been working as my workout area. http://boristerzic.blogspot.com/2008/09/new-gym.html |

I also live in a 2nd floor apt. I have:
- homemade squat cage with pullup bar - cheap bar with enough plates for up to 295 lbs - spin-lok dumbells that take the same plates - cheap incline-decline bench - homemade PVC rings - jump rope - excercise ball - 100, 200, 400, 800m paths planned out in my parking lot Seems like enough, and I've had only very occasional complaints. And a lot of funny looks when I'm out running. If I had bumpers, i'd just take 'em outside. You can do a lot with not much if you have the desire. |

Re: I live in an apartment
Hi Sean,
Living in an apartment and working out isn't an issue; there has been some great equipment advice posted here. (Sandbags are wonderful!) If you have room for a power rack and a bar, you can do many (but not all) exercises safely and without dropping the weight through the floor or on your cats. My power rack has been one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever purchased: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Nhl4dRtRg (WFS) |

Kelly,
If you're ever in Baltimore, you are more than welcome to stop by and play. |
