CrossFit rip-off?

I recently discovered a CrossFit knock-off called www.soldierfit.com. Their website includes terms like the EXACT same 10 aspects of fitness as CrossFit, "high intensity training," "Varied workouts," and "functional fitness," but makes absolutely no reference to CrossFit. Just wanted to give a heads up so someone can take appropriate action.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

I love how the w/ their pictures the guy is muscular, while the girl is holding a miniature weight and has absolutely no visible muscles, but super skinny. At least they didn't completely rip off CF...

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

Doesn't say CrossFit anywhere on the site. The only similarity is the 10 aspects of fitness like you say, but Coach didn't come up with those. He borrowed them from Jim Cawley of Dynamax.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

Meh, seems like a "boot camp" program that many gyms have. If they are using CF type exercises...so what? Last time I checked there wasn't pattent on who can use what exercises. We do push-ups and sit-ups like the military, Oly lifts and power lifts like power lifters and do runs just like runners do. Everybody borrows exercises from everybody else. That's called sharing knowledge

If it motivates people to get into shape, what's the big deal?

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

My only problem with these guys is that they could really use a proofreader. Maybe I should offer to help 'em out.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

Yeah, the website clearly seems to have been guided/influenced by CrossFit's branding...starting at the name...SoldierFit.

Whatevs...Imitation being flattery and all.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

folks, a lot of this stuff has been around for a long time, coaches were doing compound movement, high intensity varied circuits in the 50's and then bodybuilding made everyone forget everything. Glassman put it all together in his own way and created Crossfit but he is not the inventor of exercise. Relax.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

COuld also be someone who did the level 1 cert, saw a way to make people fit, and decided to do it on their own rather than paying the "$2000" per year name usage fee.

I am sure I've read that level 1 trainers can open gyms just not use/call it crossfit but can train in "Crossfit" style training.

Re: CrossFit rip-off?

I guess my reaction wouldn't have been so strong if they were doing it in, say, the middle of nowhere Alaska. But it's 5 miles away from the affiliate I go to...
