Re: What would Rip think?

Safety squat bars are quite popular with powerlifters.

Re: What would Rip think?

Why wouldn't you just squat in a power rack if you weren't confident squatting the weight? Change your environment rather than changing the bar.

Re: What would Rip think?

It's not about confidence or safety - it's a different exercise because the center of gravity is shifted forward.

Re: What would Rip think?

I think Rip would say it depends on why you're training. If you're training for power lifting, and you are beyond intermidiate, then sure. If not, then you should be working on BB squats.

Re: What would Rip think?

It allows you to load up like a back squat but gives more of a front squat feel without any wrist elbow issues. A good tool for powerlifters.

Oh, come on. Front squats aren't all that bad on the wrists. At least not when you get used to them.

Re: What would Rip think?

This is addressed in the SquatRX series on YouTube... Boris uses one of these kinds of devices (the Dave Draper version, which is an attachment piece to the bar) in Top Squat instruction.

Here's the episode (WFS)
