Squat Racks

I've been looking at getting a squat rack for my garage gym. Both my budget and my space are small so I have been looking at the two below:

York Pro Series 204: http://www.primalathletes.com/York-P...Rack_p_11.html (wfs)

Garage Gym Squat/Dip Stand: http://www.theg2scart.com/Garage_Gym.../g2ssqtdip.htm (wfs)

The problem with the York is that its made in Canada and shipping to San Diego gets pricey.

The problem with the Garage Gym is that it has been on back order as long as I have been looking at these things and I have heard horror stories about working with Garage Gym Store.

Does anyone have recommendations for similar stands? Looking same size and about the same price.

Also I like the spotter arms / pins on both of these. I lift alone so that is an important feature.

Thanks for the help

Re: Squat Racks

There are http://www.bwproducts.com/fitness/eq...racks/r04.html and http://www.bwproducts.com/fitness/eq...cks/r04sr.html for $600 + shipping and even more expensive products from Ironmind called Vulcan stands.

http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/pro93140.html for $450 with safeties.

All of these can be disassembled after a workout if space is a big concern. Rogue's S-2 squat stands for $600 are better but take up a permanent 4x4 footprint. You get a good pullup bar there which can be stabilized by bolting down or weighing down.

Typically with racks and bars you should spend a bit more. The ones you listed are good enough but for another $400 you can get noticeably better. I hear that garage gym stand is annoying to adjust to dip width.

Re: Squat Racks

How flexible are you on price? Keep in mind that if you pay for crappy equipment now, there's a good chance you'll pay for it again when you replace it in a few years.

If you're willing to pay a bit more for an indestructible squat stand backed by amazing customer service, look for something like the Rogue S2 with the Matador dip attachment (both WFS). Added bonus on the S2 is that you get a pullup bar. The ES1 (WFS) is a bit cheaper but isn't Matador-compatible and doesn't have a pullup bar.

I would highly recommend avoiding anything by Garage Gym due to their poor quality and customer service.

Re: Squat Racks

You might want to consider these...

http://hammerheadfitness.com/hammerhead-m92a1-rack/ [wfs]

Made in conjunction with folks that build for the US Military. It's a potent mix. And the rack can be used as a Pullup Rig, a Squat Rack, a Yoke, a Sled...

Re: Squat Racks

I built this one: (SAFE) Rack

I dropped 550 on it as a stress test, and the thing was completely solid. Cost me less than $100

To quote Rippetoe, "I wouldn't use a wooden squat rack for the same reason I wouldn't drive a wooden car"

Re: Squat Racks

Thanks for the help guys. The problem with a power cage or even the S2 is that they are pretty permanent. I need something that I can hide away when its not being used.

So far this york looks like it may be my best bet (safe)

Re: Squat Racks

I showed a picture to a welder friend and he built me two stands with dual catch hooks for like $200. I had to paint it myself....
