Affordable coconut oil

Around here, coconut oil is about $7-10 per pound. I was wondering if anyone has a cheaper source? There are no trader joes or whole foods here, although I might have someone here who can get to one of them for me.

Re: Affordable coconut oil

Well i know here (in a small town in Norway!) they sell it much cheaper at the "asian" shop, but i always wondered what kind of quality difference there is between it and the stuff you buy at the health food shop for 3x the cost. I believe its probably in the processing (cold-pressing etc) but i'm not 100% sure. Perhaps someone else knows more about this and can enlighten us!

Re: Affordable coconut oil

At VitaCost.com after shipping it's $7.20/lb. The shipping is a flat rate, though, so if you buy more than one tub, it's less per lb. (above link is safe)

Re: Affordable coconut oil

www.carbsmart.com (WFS) has good prices on organic, extra virgin coconut oil. Good stuff.

Re: Affordable coconut oil

Try the Indian grocery store. They have a couple of brands. Parachute is one that I know of that is used in cooking. It's not that expensive I don't think.
