is a bench necessary?

I have a heavy duty flat/incline bench that I hardly use. Should I keep it around? Or is they wods that require a bench?

Re: is a bench necessary?

I've seen "Bench press" in the mainsite WOD. It was last month.

keep it around and use it more often. Bench is highly functional and makes you look better.

...and you can put you bottle on top before Fran, and can lay on it after Fran...

If you follow CF mainsite, using a bench is really rare. CF Football WOD shows more bench press, but still, no need for incline.

If you need some money and free floor place-sell it. If not, keep it.

Keep it. If theres one thing I've learned about stuff like that it's if you don't think you need it this month you'll wish you had it next month. You might think "well I do CrossFit so I don't need a bench." Next month you might decide you want to do some 5-3-1 to add a little strength and you'll be saying "I wish I had a bench."

Re: is a bench necessary?

I sold both my bench and rack. I don't do WODs, just a lot of CF style exercises. That was after a couple months of it just being in the way. If I'm tired I can lay on the floor in a pool of my own sweat.

Re: is a bench necessary?

I would definitely keep it. You probably wont get much for it and you never know when you might need it. Like someone else said, if you are pressed for space, it might be a different story, but if not, keep it and add in some bench work once in a while.

Re: is a bench necessary?

Bench pressing may get popular in Crossfit and then what will do?

Seriously bench pressing is a very important exercise. The reason it's not popular with crossfit is a mystery, something to do with "what's your bench max" being a popular question in normal gyms.
