Maybe I'm a wuss (yeah yeah...) but lately I have been feeling like I need a nap after a tough WOD. I think I'm eating ok, so I don't believe that's it. I haven't been getting great sleep...so maybe I need to get to bed earlier...any other thoughts? I try to get my workouts in before work, and spend at least the first 2 hours at work trying to wake up from my post workout funk...

Ted Williams? Is this the Ted Williams who's head is in a jar full of liquid nitrogen? I figured you'd be on a permanent nap...
OK, bad joke. Carry on. Just to quickly offer an opinion...I'd start with better sleep at night. I will occasionally feel like I need a nap, but it's pretty rare. FWIW, I'm 34 and generally sleep about 7 hours per night. |

I occasionally find I need a nap after a particularly hard workout, or after an unusually intense grappling session.
Those naps seem substantively different from 'I'm feeling sorta tired' naps. Rather, I lie down for a minute while untying my sneakers, and suddenly wake up a half hour later. As such naps hit me mainly if I suddenly jump into an unusually intense workout, rather than slowly building intensity over previous workouts, I suspect it has less to do with getting enough sleep at night, and more to do with increasing intensity gradually enough that your body doesn't need to knock you out and go into full-time repair mode after an unexpected bit of over-exertion. |

I nap just about every day around 12:30 or so for 20 minutes.
My sleep schedule is sporatic throughout the week as is the time I workout. Sometimes I am working out at 12:30 at night, 10:30am or 6pm. I will go to sleep at 10:30 some nights, 2:30 others (about twice a week). I wake up everyday around the same time 6:45am. So some days I get 4 hours sleep, others 8. I wish I could get 7-8 everyday, but then I wouldn't get to workout. The sad part (for a 25 yr old)is that I go to bed earlier on Friday and Saturday than on nights I am working. Two jobs will do that to you. My naps aren't usually associated with my workouts. Although I do sleep better when I have had a good WOD and a contrast shower before going to bed. I am going to take a nap right now actually. |

Matt, you should see how hard it is to do a snatch with just your teeth! :proud:
Yeah, I should say that I don't get that sleepy need sleep feeling...its more intense, like I'm about to passout (not that drastic). Thanks for the suggestions...I definetly need to get more sleep at night (if possible), and could also work on warming up more before my workouts. By the way, coffee fixed the sleepyness this morning. I usually stay away from coffee, but it just sounded really good this morning :D Ted |

I actually only get ticked at people who order that stuff when their *** is so big that they could set the cup down on it.
Baristas at Starbucks should be allowed to turn away customers based on that. "Sorry Sir, but I don't think you really need another venti mocha chip frappuchino. Looks like you've already had a few too many." |

Ted, it's hard to be fat when you're just a head :-)
Matt, all true. Plus those things are so damn expensive. With all the money you would save you could buy an Ab Lounge or a Gazelle. |

Hey...I've got my Gazelle in my living room, and the AbLounge is on order.
Wait...oh, I just woke up from a nightmare. I'm still trying to figure out Tony Little... My thinking on the Starbuck's baristas is kind of in the same vein as bartenders, who are allowed to refuse drunk customers more drinks. |
