Robb, can you shed a little light on your position on fructose and fruit juices. I'm sorry if this has been handled before, but any clarification would be helpful.

Fructose really deranges liver function. It causes almost imediate insulin resistance and is actually used to induce type 2 diabetes in lab animals. I do not see much of a problem with fruit because it tends to be self limiting how much fruit one can consume and absorb. Juice is certianly a different matter.

I had another disussion on consuming too much fruit. I agree, fruit has a built in defense for over-consumption. You can only eat so many apples.

Thanks. I'm no doctor, but that doesn't sound too good to me. I was wondering why fruit juices have such a low GI and GL.

GI relates to glucose concentration and the fructose must go through the liver before converting to glucose. This is a pretty slow process. The glycemic load on juice can still be pretty large however.
