Well yesterday was my first 5k race...first running race honestly (not including the 1 marathon I 'survived'). Here's how it went:
Worked a 24 hour shift and was up all night running calls then got off work and drove an hour to the race scarfing dried fruit, a larabar, and water en route. Arrived with 20 minutes to warm up and found (much to my dismay) that the first 2 miles of the road course were fairly steeply downhill. Oh the pain!!! I thought my shins were going to explode out of my legs. So my grand total was 22:30 with my mile splits at 8:17/8:03/6:10. The third mile was slightly uphill so I was able to turn up the speed to where it should be. (my PR is 18:40 so not a strong showing)
After all this I was frustrated so I ran the course back to my car. Much nicer running uphill, made it back to the car in 28:06.
