Eating while breast feeding

Hi all. I am 5 wks post partum and breast feeding. I gained more than I anticipated so I really need to get back in shape. I wanted to know if anyone knew of a safe diet to follow to promote a healthy weight loss while nursing.

Thanks!!

this is but one part of it, but try to make sure what meat you eat is grass-fed (beef, etc.) or wild (fish). it's best for you, and it's best for your baby. it'll promote your own weight loss/stability/recovery and promote your child's development.

the Paleo Zone is the best you can get. It is the Zone diet, with all of the food choices coming from Paleo sources (no grains/dairy/processed foods). Add a block or two to compensate for calories lost through feeding.

All of the info on the Zone and the Paleo Zone can be found by searching these message boards, from the CrossFit journal, and from the Performance Menu journal (google for website).

Hope this helps! Best of luck in your goal.

Re: Eating while breast feeding

A nursing mother requires 500 extra calories a day to feed her infant, mostly in the form of protein and fat.

You don't want to lose weight rapidly while nursing, since when we liberate fat, we liberate the toxins stored in fat, and these wind up in breast milk.

Eat clean, don't eat hormone/antibiotic fed animals or animal products (milk, eggs, dairy) Buy wild-caught, not farm-raised fish.

Don't eat junk food.

Eat 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks, and with each meal or mini-meal, eat a bit of protein, vegetables and fruit, and healthy fat, like olive oil, nuts, or avocados.

Enjoy your baby and your nursing relationship, it's seems interminable while you're in it, but it goes fast...

Susie

It's important following your crawings when pregnant and breastfeeding. Once you lay off, it'll come off fast. Did with my ex, did with her friends, did with every woman I've known breastfeeding. You got your whole life afterwards to get back in shape. Enjoy the extra chubbiness while you have it

Re: Eating while breast feeding

This months' Performance Menu has an article on exercise, pregnancy (and post-pregnancy) and discusses nutrition in there too.

I'm not sure if the CFJ has done a similar article, I just recently completed my collection and haven't had time to read my new issues.
